We are all built differently, and this consultation provides a detailed analysis of your body composition using internationally recognized standards set by the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK).

Purpose of the Assessment .

The ISAK method is used to:

-Accurately measure body composition (fat mass, muscle mass, bone mass)

-Track physical development and changes over time

-Support performance goals for athletes

-Inform nutrition and training plans

What Will Be Measured.

 Your consultation will include:

-Stature & Body Mass (height and weight)

-Skinfold Thicknesses (typically 7 or 8 sites)

-Girths (e.g., waist, hip, arm, calf)

-Breadths (e.g., humerus, femur and wrist)

-Limb Lengths (if required for specific goals e.g. boxing)

All measurements are taken using ISAK-approved techniques and equipment to ensure consistency and accuracy.

 Duration.

The full consultation typically takes 35–45 minutes.

Please wear light, form-fitting clothing (e.g., shorts and sports bra or vest) to allow access to measurement sites. Adaptations can be made so that the client is always comfortable, and you can choose to wear whatever you wish but this might affect reading accuracy.  Below, the photos give an indication of the areas measured. Chaperones can attend any meeting. The client has the right to refuse a measurement, at any time, for any reason. The consultation can usually proceed using fewer metrics. If a client wants to stop the consultation completely, then a full refund can be given.

Typical measurement sites include scapula. hip, waist, abdomen, thigh, arm and calf.

 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is the assessment invasive or painful?
A: Not usually. Measurements are taken externally using calipers and tape measures. Some areas might be more sensitive than others to skin fold measurements.

Q: Do I need to fast before the consultation?
A: No fasting is required. However, it’s best to avoid heavy meals or intense exercise immediately before your appointment for more consistent results.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Please wear light, close-fitting clothing such as shorts and a vest or sports bra. This allows access to measurement sites while maintaining your comfort and privacy.

Q: Can I have this done if I’m pregnant or injured?
A: Yes, but some measurements may be adapted or omitted depending on your condition. Please inform me in advance so we can tailor the session appropriately.

Q: How often should I repeat the assessment?
A: This depends on your goals. Athletes or those on a body composition/ weight loss plan may benefit from assessments every 4-6 weeks. For general wellness, every 10–12 weeks is typical.

Q: Will I get a body fat percentage?
A: Yes, your report will include an estimate of body fat percentage based on ISAK skinfold data, along with other key metrics

Q: Is this the same as a DEXA scan or bioelectrical impedance?
A: No. ISAK uses manual anthropometry, which is highly accurate when performed by a trained practitioner. It’s portable, cost-effective, and ideal for tracking changes over time.
